My Vegan Story (An Herbivore is a Vegan, Right?)

I was just ambling around in Delisa’s garden last week, munching on the remaining stalks of broccoli, kale, collards, Swiss chard and peas, thinking what a great arrangement we have. She and Charlie plant a big, organic vegetable garden and enjoy it all summer long, and when they’re done with it in the fall, I come in with my young’uns and munch on the tough parts they don’t want. You see, we like a lot of the same foods, but I have the advantage of having a few extra stomachs to help me digest the woody, tough parts that humans can’t digest.

                                    How I Became Vegan

If someone had told me six months ago that my husband, Paul, and I would become vegans, I wouldn’t have believed them. First of all, I didn’t even know what a vegan was. I’d heard of vegetarians and had even been one for about a year, many years ago--but a vegan? But as we all know, life can throw us a curve that can send us down an entirely different path. Our new journey started by my being diag- nosed with breast cancer on March 28th of this year.

                                    The "Animal Person" Goes Vegan

I was a young teenager when I walked into a leather store with my friend and told her not to buy anything because it was “just dead animals hanging everywhere.” The sales clerk overheard our conversation and asked me one simple question that changed my life: “Do you eat meat?” At first I didn’t understand the connection and was confused by the question.

                                    Why I'm Vegan

I’ve always acknowledged the simple truth that in order to be happy, one must be kind. Although I agreed with this concept in theory, it wasn’t until recently that I was able to put this principal into play and be gifted by the many rewards that come with making compassionate choices.
Before becoming vegan, I was a vegetarian for 12 years; and a bad one at that. I was a cheese addict, a goodie girl and an Egg Head. I wore the milk mustache.

How did a Colorado Farm Boy Became a Vegan?

When people ask me how I became vegan, I reply in a somewhat joking way, “It was a prenuptial agreement!” So, how does a Colorado farm boy even think of agreeing to become a vegan?
