Kitchen Tools used in the Cooking Classes
Vegetable Chop and Measure
Delisa uses this handy tool in her cooking classes and at home to quickly chop onions, potatoes, bell peppers and even tomatoes, but don't put them in whole; it will make a big mess! After chopping, turn vertically to measure the quantity chopped.
A similar product, under the brand Vidalia, is available at local stores, but only has 2 cutters.

Vitamix
This is a blender on steroids! It is a very powerful and versatile tool for the kitchen. The Vitamix is sold with a "wet" container for blending fruit or vegetable smoothies, sauces and soups. An additional container, called a "dry" container, can also be purchased for grinding grains or beans for flour. The containers are available in various sizes.
Can be ordered from Vitamix We have also heard good reviews about the Blendtec, which is similar in capabilities to the Vitamix. Also available locally at Costco and Sams a couple of times a year, usually in the spring and fall, when they have in store demonstrations. The Vitamix used in the Food for Life classes was donated by the Vitamix corporation. |
Food Processor
A food processor is a great tool to chop and puree vegetables or make thick bean spreads. This tool works better than a blender (even a Vitamix) when mixing thick spreads or shredding vegetables.
The brand Delisa uses in the cooking classes is a Kitchen Aid. Delisa purchased hers on Amazon.com. The Kitchen Aid food processor is a heavy duty machine which is durable enough for use in the cooking classes. There are other brands of food processors available at local stores which will probably work well for you. |
Saladmaster machine and pans
All of the pans and the Saladmaster machine used in the Food for Life cooking classes were donated by the Saladmaster corporation.
The Saladmaster products are only available through a home demonstration. Delisa has been authorized by Saladmaster to demonstrate and sell their products in Alaska. Call Delisa, 907-373-1526, to schedule an in-home demonstration. |
Soy Milk Maker
We often get asked what kind of non-dairy milk we use at home. The answer is: We make our own soy milk. But it's easy to do with a soy milk maker.
We use the SoyQuick Premier soy milk maker. We use soy milk on our cooked cereal every morning and in various recipes that call for non-dairy milk. This little machine has served us well for several years and we have been pleased with it. It is much more economical to make your own soy milk and you determine the ingredients that go into it. Organic soy beans can be purchased at local Fred Meyer stores in the bulk bins. It only takes 3/4 cup of soy beans to make 1.5 quarts of soy milk. We purchased our machine on Amazon.com. |
