The Food for Life classes are a community-based, national program designed by physicians, nutrition experts, and registered dietitians to aid people in learning about the power of food to improve their health and wellness.

The cooking instructor, Delisa Renideo, has been trained and certified by the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) to teach the Food for Life Nutrition and Cooking Classes.

The two Food for Life classes, Cancer Prevention and Survival, and Diabetes Prevention or Reversal, are taught as a 7 week series, meeting once a week for 2 hours.  These classes are offered in Anchorage and Wasilla, Alaska.

The Food for Life Nutrition and Cooking Classes for Cancer Prevention and Survival promotes cancer prevention and survival through a better understanding of cancer causes, particularly the link between nutrition and cancer. Research has shown that people who eat a diet free of animal products, high in nutritious plant foods, and low in fat have a much lower risk of developing cancer and a better chance of surviving if they have already been diagnosed with cancer.

" I cannot thank Delisa, Charlie, and the Cancer Project enough. I thought I  had been eating a mostly healthy diet -- I was hugely mistaken!  One of the things I am most delighted to learn is that I can eat until I am full when eating a healthy vegan diet, and not gain weight.   Delisa’s passion is infectious.  She (and Charlie) is such a gift.  It would be impossible not to enjoy this class."                                                                                  -Julie, Anchorage, Alaska

                                    Diabetes Prevention or Reversal

The Food for Life Diabetes Nutrition and Cooking Class is a plant-based program which is based on research. It is an easy-to-follow approach to help people with diabetes in two significant ways:
                                    • Avoid or reverse preventable complications from the disease
                                    • Reduce the need for medication(s) by treating the cause, not managing symptoms
A plant-based diet has also been described as a safe choice in the 2009 American Diabetes Association's Standards of Care for Diabetes.
