BackSaver Table Stilts

    BackSaver Table Stilts were created to provide a comfortable working height for cooking instructors, which reduces back strain.

    The idea was inspired when my wife, Delisa, a cooking instructor, began having chronic back pain after she had been teaching cooking classes for several months.  She made many visits to the chiropractor but her back pain persisted.
    It occurred to me, (Charlie), that maybe leaning over a table during her cooking classes might be the cause.  I made some wood blocks to raise the table to a kitchen counter height and amazingly her back pain faded away!  And no more expensive trips to the chiropractor.  She has been teaching cooking classes for 6 years now and hasn't had any more problems with back pain.

    Students in Delisa's classes like the BackSaver Table Stilts  because the higher demonstration table makes it easier for them to see what she is doing.

The BackSaver Table Stilts are made to work with typical tables with fold-up legs (Fig. 1), but will also work with other straight leg or  "T" type leg tables (Fig. 2 & 3).

Note:  The Velcro straps are not used with this type of table.

Benefits:

  • Easy storage and portability - there are Velcro tabs on each side of the stilts which allow 2 stilts to be strapped together. (Fig. 5 - 7)  Flip one stilt over on top of another stilt and attach the Velcro straps to the 4 Velcro tabs.  Now they will stay together as one unit.

*  The BackSaver Table Stilts are pretty stable,  but DO NOT lean against the side of the table, it will tip over - creating a BIG mess!  This has never happened in any of Delisa's cooking classes, but be aware that it is possible and use caution.

Each stilt is a 4 x 4 block 6.75" high, which raises a typical 30" high table to 36.75".  A 1 x 2 is securely attached with wood screws and a Velcro strap is attached  for securing the stilt to the table leg.
